Forty years ago, my friend Jost with his father Karl-Friedrich, brother Volker and family friends embarked on a journey that changed their lives—and motorsport history. They didn’t just compete in the Paris-Dakar; they dominated it. Their father’s words still echo today: “We are not going there to finish, we are going there to win.”

Joining as a small private team with just two Unimogs—one driven by Jost and his father, the other by his brother Volker and their family friend—they stood against the giants of the rally world. When I was reading Volker’s memories of their Dakar adventure in the last few weeks, I realized what a tremendous achievement it was. As someone who has been a fan of motorsport forever, I deeply admire the sheer grit, determination, and mindset they carried through the desert.

This mentality is something we share, and it’s something we try to pass on to others: the belief that anything is possible with the right team, spirit, and values.
Big respect to the entire Capito team in the Dakar 40 years ago—you’ve made history. 🙌🏆
